It was with great joy that we opened Peterborough This Week’s newspaper and noticed that The Urban Spa and it’s amazing team had won multiple awards. “We had no idea the contest was happening or we had been submitted” says Kerri Holley, Owner of The Urban Spa.

When deciding whether to wax or not for your big day we hear all kinds of brides saying different things so we thought we would share some tips with you.
Each part of your body that is getting waxed needs special attention and should never be done the day of or even the day before your big day!
Eyebrow/Face Waxing– you want to make sure this is done at a minimum a week before your big day and longer if you have never waxed before! With increased stress surrounding your wedding, your skin can over react and cause more redness than normal. The last thing you want is red brows or swollen upper lip in your photos!
Leg/Arm Waxing– ideally you would want to start at a minimum 3-4 months before your big day with once a month waxing. This ensures your body is prepared and used to the waxing and your hair growth cycles are on on track and your waxing should last through your big day and into your honeymoon right after! Try and schedule it so your waxing lands the week before your wedding date!
Now the big debate- Bikini or Brazilian! This is entirely personal preference and when it comes to your big day it should be your decision not your grooms or bridesmaids! Like Leg waxing you want to start this waxing well in advance of your wedding day so you know how that skin reacts to the waxing. We strongly recommend that you give your body 1-2 weeks before your wedding date when it comes to this type of waxing if it is not consistent. The last thing you want is to be unable to walk down the aisle! 😉
Male waxing– Why not convince your guy to get his brows done before your big day! Don’t worry he won’t end up with pretty girlie brows but we can help those caterpillar brows and unibrows 😉 Plus most men get addicted to it when they realize just how much longer it lasts than shaving the middle! While your at it, convince him to get the Business Meeting Manicure as well, trust me you will thank us for this too 😉
Whether your waxing, shaving or trying something new for your skin, please remember to do it in enough time to gauge your reaction. As a team, we set big goals and as a team we celebrated those big goals. Here’s a quick run down of our 2015 staff party with ‘in-action’ photos.
We started in Peterborough with an the Amazing Race – Urban Spa Edition where the team did various fun road blocks and detours all the way to our first destination Ottawa, Ontario.
Here you will see two team members celebrating a Stanley cup finish to an outdoor hockey match.
Here’s you’ll see the team posing with their snow men.
Using a ball of warn the team was creative in taking stylish photos with random strangers.
Here you’ll see us doing random acts of kindness helping random strangers pump gas.
Once we got to Ottawa, we had an exquisite dinner at Bier Markt and then we we’re off to the Ottawa Senators Hockey Game in a style limo!
And here we are as a team having a blast at the game!
After the Sens game we had a great time dancing the night away at Fat Tuesday’s (a duelling piano hot spot) in Ottawa.
We started the day with some R&R and then put on the skates for a great skate on the Rideau Canal, the worlds longest skating rink!
We then headed over to North America’s largest spa on record; Le Nordik – Spa Nature. Just because we all work at a spa doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy going to the spa! It was AMAZING! The hot, cold and relax cycles are epic. The 1 degree water to cool you off sure get the heart going!
The spa was amazing and we rented a chalet for the night and made a feast. A Swiss traditional dish called “La Raclette”. It was great food, great fun and we toasted to our 2014 success looking excitedly at 2015 and the possibilities.
Day 3We headed back to the spa in the morning for 3 more hours of fun then grabbed an Ottawa classic for lunch. Garlic Shawarma! We headed back home and now we’re ready to take on 2015.
