Bamboo Massage, Innovative, Renewable and Deeply Relaxing

The newest service The Urban Spa is bringing to Peterborough and the Kawarthas is Bamboo Massage! This innovative massage technique was developed by Nathalie Cecilia in 2004 as a way to provide a deeper pressure to her clients.

The biggest benefit of Bamboo is that it can grow up to a foot in 24 hrs, making it an easily renewable resource that can be reproduced frequently. It’s also self-healing and has natural anti-bacterial properties!

The pieces of bamboo range from 4inches long to 16inches long and vary in diameter. Each piece has a unique use depending on the muscle being treated. People of all shapes and sizes can enjoy this treatment as most of the pressure is done with the stalks of bamboo. The pressure is dispersed across the bamboo stock unlike the individual pressure you feel of a thumb or elbow it is comfortable for even the most sensitive of person to enjoy. This makes it a very different experience.

The Bamboo is heated thoroughly and evenly to a warm temperature that stays heated throughout your treatment. You feel the soothing warmth of the bamboo along with the therapist’s or esthetician’s hands as they use various sizes and widths to complete your treatment. Tightness and knots can still be felt with the bamboo so we can work with those knots and tight spots.

Bamboo massage can help soothe sore muscles, increase circulation and provide a deep sense of relaxation because of the heat. It is also incredible for stress relief and can help with headaches and arthritis; especially when combined with Boreal.

Our Winter Warm Up treatments are here!

Urban Spa PeterboroughWe’ve created a few new seasonal services to warm you up during this cold winter we are having, all of which use the amazing power of hot stones!

Our Boreal Hot Stone combines both hot and cold stones for a full body warm up and refresher. Start your treatment with a Hot Stone massage to your back, an instant way to boost your body heat and relax your muscles. The second half of your treatment is our Cold stone massage to your face and neck. An incredible massage that can calm inflammation, help relieve puffiness and dark circles around the eyes, and improve skin tone. It’s also incredible for clients who suffer from sinusitis by reducing congestion and nasal swelling. You leave your treatment feeling warm, refreshed and ready to take on the cold!

We’ve also stepped up our Manicures and Pedicures for the winter as well! Both will begin with your choice of scrub- cinnamon urban spa peterboroughCinnamon or Eucalyptus and the heat of the Hot Stone massage. If you’re looking for a last minute gift idea, our gift cards make an awesome gift. I’m blown away with the amount of people who called, emailed, or visited us to purchase gift cards and I wanted to make this option available to you as well!

Our gift cards are like a re-loadable debit card (picture below) that you can put ANY amount on. We have business owners who are giving $15 gift cards to their employees and husbands purchasing $500 gift cards for their wives, either way we can help!
