If you’re like a lot of us, your morning beauty routine can often be overtaken by the mashing of a snooze button until you barely have enough time for the basics. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Luckily, there is a better way that won’t have you missing out on those much needed extra Zzzzz’s.
Eyelash extensions are individual lashes made of silk, mink, or a synthetic fiber, that are attached to your natural lashes in a semi-permanent fashion. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to wake up with Betty Boop lashes without mascara bits on your cheeks (even when you swear you’ve washed it all off the night before!), these are going to be your new best friend.
Here is what you need to know:
1. This is not a one-size-fits-all experience (which is a good thing!).
Once you decide to get lash extensions, you have a few more decisions in order to customize your look.
First, you get to pick the density; more lashes will create a fuller look. At the Urban Spa, for example, this option will be offered to you when you’re making your reservation. We offer a full set which includes 45-60 lashes per eye, or a partial set of 25-35 lashes per eye (a great way to create a more natural look while adding length and volume).
Then, your Lash Extension Technician will ask you about your length goals. As with all of your lash decisions, this really comes down to personal preference; the longer the lash, the more drama that is created. Below are some lash length examples. Check with your provider to see what is available.
After you’ve settled on your length, you get to pick the curl. Whether you’re looking for an “I woke up like this” look, or an “I carry my lash curler with me everywhere I go” illusion, you and your Lash Extension Technician have several options available to make sure your lashes are exactly YOU!
Last, but definitely not least, comes the placement of your lashes. This is arguably the most exciting option you will be offered. Since these lashes are all individual, you can change the placement of each to create several completely different looks. If you’re looking to get a little creative, try a Cat-Eye.
2. Extensions are not just for length.
If you’re someone who has light coloured lashes naturally, extensions are a great way to add volume, definition, and shape the eye – whether or not you want to add length. Since they also come in a variety of colours, you can choose what goes best with your natural colouring and personal preferences. (Are you thinking what I’m thinking?)
3. Lash naps are the new beauty sleep.
Seriously – the process is super relaxing. You will be laying down for an hour and a half to two hours (for a full set) with your eyes closed while calming music plays in the background. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a little self-care reflection time while a technician attaches feathery nothings to your lashes.
4. Aftercare.
Aftercare is not as hard as one might think, and it’s important to know before your reservation to make sure you’re getting the most of your new lashes. If properly taken care of, you could get 4 – 6 weeks of life with a fill recommended every 2 – 4 weeks if you’re looking to maintain. Some things to remember:
– Do not get your lashes wet for the first 48 hours. Once this time period is over, you are fine to get them wet and, in fact, encouraged to keep them nice and clean.
– Do not use oil-based products around your lash line. This goes for liner, makeup, makeup remover, creams, everything!
– No lash curlers (you won’t need them anyway!).
– Try to avoid pulling them or rubbing your eyes.
5. Think of the time and money you will save!
While you can still wear (non-oil-based) makeup with your extensions, some who have them tend to forego altogether. If you’re looking for a way to wake up and go and still look fabulous, this is definitely it. With proper maintenance, your lashes can have you looking (and feeling) your best for 4 – 6 weeks. If you’re one to wear little to no makeup during this time, you’re going to be able to sleep in a lot more frequently and save on those extra makeup products.
6. Removal.
If for whatever reason you decide to have your lashes removed rather than allowing them to fall out with your natural lash growth or replenished with a Lash Fill reservation, they do need to be removed professionally. Do not – I repeat – do not pull on the lashes to remove them yourself. This can often lead to your natural lash coming along with it in a very painful way (and can actually cause damage to your hair follicle). If you’re looking to save on the cost of a removal, let them fall out with the natural shedding of your lashes.
At the Urban Spa, we want to make sure you are completely happy with the services you receive here. That is why we want to mention that not everyone is a perfect candidate for lash extensions. If you tend to be an eye rubber, these may not be your thing. If all of the above has you ready to book, click here or give us a call at 705-741-1212.
Please note that we do ask for a deposit for first-time lash extensions reservations.
